EMOM
Every Minute on the Minute — a fixed amount of work, performed at the start of every minute, for a set number of minutes.
What is EMOM training?
EMOM stands for Every Minute on the Minute. You perform a set amount of work — a number of reps, a movement, or a short combination — at the top of every minute, then rest for whatever time remains before the next minute starts.
If the work takes you 30 seconds, you get 30 seconds of rest. If it takes 45 seconds, you get 15. The clock doesn't wait for you, which is exactly what makes EMOM effective: it forces pacing and consistency instead of letting a workout drift.
How to structure an EMOM
A basic EMOM has three parts: the movement, the rep count, and the total duration. For example:
10-minute EMOM: 8 kettlebell swings, every minute, for 10 minutes.
You can also alternate movements minute to minute — odd minutes for one exercise, even minutes for another — to build a longer, more varied session without changing the basic rule.
Who EMOM works well for
EMOM is useful whether you're new to structured training or experienced and looking for a conditioning finisher. Because the work-to-rest ratio is self-regulating — harder movements naturally leave less rest — it scales to almost any fitness level just by adjusting the rep count or movement difficulty.
